Jeff,

From what Ive read, "In the Pines" is a traditional song that is believed to
have come from southern Appalachia. Just like "man of Constant Sorrow", it's been around a long time and it's not for sure known who the original author was. I can say that ive heard at the very least 10 different variations of the song and like you mentioned, has 2 different titles.

Sure is a timeless classic!

I just watched a video on YouTube of Ralph and  Carter singing "In the
Pines." This song is very similar to "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" by Leadbelly (and recorded by Nirvana and others). Does anyone know who is credited with
writing "In the  Pines"?
