12/2/2005 Thanks Buddy & everyone else who remembered Daddy today, yesterday, and any other day. He is sorely missed. He was all you say and more. Sometimes I think he was magic, just a magic man. Every father today play "Baby Girl" for your daughters (and your sons, if you change the wording just a little, it could just as well be "Baby Boy") and remind them you love them & they're very special. A special man wrote that song 52 years ago about a little girl he thought was pretty special too. I share it with all of you as a celebration of the wonderful talent for writing songs the Lord gave Daddy. It has meant the world to me. I used to wake up my daughter by singing it to her every morning to get her out of bed. Again, thanks for remembering him here.
I won't be writing here for a few days or weeks. I have a personal matter which I have to take care of and I'll be offline for several days/weeks. I'll keep reading posts when I can. HOWEVER, I hope you all will continue reaching out to one another, keep talking about Stanley Music and that with every day every member of this group enjoys life more. When I'm well & home again I'll be right back here, right in the middle of you all. Keep loving bluegrass & mountain music, it's the very best music in the world! Cordially your friend, Doris. Quoting Buddy Woodward <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: " " " " Thirty-nine years ago today (December 1, 1966), the world of bluegrass & " " old-time mountain music lost one of our greatest treasures when Carter " " Stanley passed away. " " " " He composed & arranged a staggering amount of songs, & added greatly to " " this " " music's repertoire during its formative years, & was one of the finest, if " " not THE finest, singer in the genre. Bill Monroe himself said, "Carter " " had " " a pearl in his voice." " " " " Most of today's bluegrass fans were not witness to his charm, but from " " everything I've heard in my travels, & seen on the few film clips that " " survive, Carter had an engaging personality which he put to excellent use " " as " " front man for the Stanley Brothers band, & was a consummate showman, both " " on " " and off the stage. " " " " I will be listening to the music he left us with throughout the day, & " " will " " be thinking of him. Hopefully all of you will be as well.
