Hi Kathleen and members,
James Shelton compiled a wonderful book on the early days. There's a quote from Ralph about Carter. I'd like to quote it: "I remember one time the Stanley Brothers were playing at the Jaxon Theatre in Jackson, Kentucky. There were several young boys sitting on the front row, and when it came time for us to take intermission, Carter just stepped down off the stage and hung his guitar around one of the boy's neck. He just sat there and held the guitar 'till Carter came back after intermission. That little boy grew up to be Roy Lee Centers...." I'm really happy for Ralph and CMB that a big label like Sony has recognized the value we have long recognized (perhaps a different value) and I thank them for bringing our joy to a much wider audience. I just wish that the tribute to Carter that Ralph did at the festival this year could have been recorded without restriction. Then again, Ralph and CMB deserve greater reward than any record label can give them and if the loss of this fan contributes to their reward, so be it. I am content to sit, watch and listen. Any mandolin players out there? I've decided to learn. I may be over 40 and too late to be great like John Rigsby... Oh, BTW, the book is available for purchase at https://dove.site-secure.net/drralphstanley/fanclub/order.shtml. Sorry, I just had to... Sincerely, Rick LeMarr > Does anyone out there have first hand stories (well, second or third hand > would be fine, for that matter) about Carter and Ralph in the early days?
