I haven't written before, but I'd like to add my voice and speak up for my love
of bluegrass and mountain music. Having recently attended the Down from the
Mountain concert, which came to a soaring close as Ralph Stanley led the
audience in Amazing Grace, I was struck by the huge diversity of bluegrass
lovers who turned came to the Newark, New Jersey, venue. What a night.
Throughout the concert I couldn't help but envisioning the musicians sitting
on a front porch singing and playing their instruments on a warm day. Perhaps
I'm influenced by photos my father took in the 1960s as he traveled the Smoky
Mountains to document the music. But whatever the case, the music comes from
the hearts of its players and fills the hearts of its listeners. It can be pure
joy and pure melancholy.

Yes you don't have to born in the south to understand
the Music Of Ralph Stanley. I was born in the south
but moved up north. When the topic of music came up I
was like ya'll probably don't listen to what I do. I
was very surprised to find so many "closet" Bluegrass
fans out there. A very good friend of mine has almost
the entire Stanley collection of songs, many a night
we sit around playing cards and listening to Ralph and
Carter Stanley sing their music. Not only Ralph but
other Bluegrass singers also. You need to look no
further than some of the biggest names in country
music that started in Bluegrass or even with Ralph
(Skaggs and Whitley). Ralph sings and plays with his
heart and soul in every song. Anyone that appreciates
good music can clearly see that. My biggest thrill of
the year is going back home for my home town's annual
Bluegrass Festival which is headlined By Ralph Stanley.
