I think folks from all over can relate to Ralph's music. I've seen people in the audience out in California, Arizona, and New Mexico wiping tears from their eyes while listening to Ralph sing. Songs about the mountains and home were always a big part of the songs the Stanley's did, as evidenced by most of the songs Carter wrote. Being from this area, the Stanley's music touched me when I was a kid just learning to play. Somehow it was easier to relate to than the music of Monroe or Flatt & Scruggs. The simplicity of their music was easier to understand and learn, at least for me. The main thing about their music is that it has feeling. You could tell that they really felt those songs they were singing, it came straight from the heart. Songs about mother, home, the loss of loved ones, etc. is something that anyone can relate to, no matter their background or where they come from.
