Would you consider walking me through setting program access and defaults so
as to make internet explorer my browser? I'm scared to do anything in there
for fear of messing things up worse. thanks,
Dan

Dan, if you are reading through an email and each link is reported to
you as a link by your screen reader then you are reading in HTML. For
example if your scree reader says "link" when it reads http://google.com
then you are reading in HTML. I still think (and I have seen this
before) that there is no default browser set so a download (or any
other) link cannot be opened from within an email. Usually running "Set
program access and defaults" from the START menu and setting IE to the
default browser is enough to fix this, although others think otherwise.

You're not bad; I thank you for your help. I still have the problem but
I'm going to take a break from it. I've got to figure out how to get
the messages in html, I think.

I am bad! You want to have the checkbox not check to read all messages
in plain text. So the messages will be in html so the links will show
up! If the messages are in plain txt, the links you have to copy and
put them in the address bar. God luck, sounds like a real headache!
