Thanks to all who came out today! Weather: Moderate winds from the southwest began the day with a temperature of 6.6 C and mostly sunny skies. The sunny skies lasted throughout the day. The winds calmed to almost no wind in the afternoon (it also shifted to the south, then to the southeast in the final 2 hours). Temperatures rose to a high of 15.1 C. Raptor Observations: A good number of Sharp-shinned Hawks were flying over today, specifically around mid-morning, including 110 individuals between 9:00 - 10:00 am EST. This was one of the highest counts of Sharpies at the tower this season! An adult Broad-winged Hawk was observed in a kettle of Turkey Vultures. By the afternoon, much of the activity over the tower had slowed dramatically. The Turkey Vulture stream had moved well north and a scope was required for viewing. Non-raptor Observations: An American Woodcock, 5 Tundra Swans and a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher are among the birds observed today. Blue Jays - 4,070 Monarchs - 3 https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S49382284 Predictions: Winds are expected to switch to the northwest tomorrow morning and last throughout the day! It will be mainly sunny skies with a high of 11 C. The winds will shift just as I will be getting to the tower in the morning and I am hoping for a really good day of raptor viewing! ======================================================================== Report submitted by Craig Evans (c...@hotmail.com) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ More site information at hawkcount.org: http://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=100 _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
