Weather: SW winds upon arriving switching to W by noon. 0 to 5% cloud cover high cirrus clouds during the count period. Temp started at 3C and got to a high of 9C by noon. Raptor Observations: The birds were on the move today with the nice weather BUT because of the southerly component for winds the flight was spread out inland so fewer migrants passed through the hawk watch area today. Still, the flight wasn't too bad with a total of 1,224 birds..... mostly TVs (1,042) and Sharpies (74) with a decent number of N. Harriers (19). Also tallied today were Bald Eagles (4), Cooper's Hawks (13), a long N. Goshawk, Red-shoulders (6), Redtails (49), Am. Kestrels (11) and Merlins (3). A couple more Golden Eagles rounded out the day. Non-raptor Observations: None reported for today. Predictions: The next 3 days look promising with predicted N and NW winds which are the best for big flights along the Lake Erie shoreline and past Hawk Cliff. The forecast also calls for partly cloudy to clear skies though there's a small chance of rain or snow Tue and Wed. However, at this time of the season the Golden Eagles, Redtails and Red-shoulders should be on the move making this a good time to visit the hawk watch. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Dave Brown (thebro...@ezlink.ca) Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch information may be found at: http://www.ezlink.ca/~thebrowns/HawkCliff/index.htm More site information at hawkcount.org: http://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=392 _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
