Sending this out primarily as an FYI for hawk watches and anyone along the north shore of Lake Erie.
This afternoon at 1538, I had a brief view of a Mississippi ‘type’ Kite flying west with a few hundred Turkey Vultures that were passing through Port Rowan into fairly strong west winds. I only had a silhouette and behavior to base this on, but it looked good. The bird kettled briefly, then ‘kited’ as it hung in the wind before peeling off quickly to the west without flapping a beat. There is a chance it could have been a very thin-winged, kettling Peregrine doing a good kite impression, but I thought I’d get the word out anyway. Port Rowan is at the base of Long Point. Take Hwy 59 south from the 401 until you hit the lake. Good birding, Stu ___________________ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
