Thanks to everyone that helped with today's count. Weather: A beautiful day... but with blue skies and very little cloud it made spotting birds a challenge. Temps started cooler at 8C and got to a high of 18C. Winds were not too bad to start being light from the NE but it then backed through E to SE which pretty much halted the flight for the day. Raptor Observations: An almost instant replay of yesterday but with a smaller flight of 544 birds. The Broadwings (318) passed through over a 3 hour period in the morning while the winds were favourable... otherwise the rest of the flight was Sharpies (136) and Kestrels (48)... along with Osprey (1), Bald Eagle (4), N. Harriers (20), Cooper's Hawks (4), Redtails (10) and Merlin (3) Non-raptor Observations: Some other observations were reported including Blue Jays (1000's), Am. Goldfinch, Am. Crow, Am. Robin, N. Flicker, RB Woodpecker, RB and WB Nuthatches, Song Sparrow, Killdeer, RT Hummingbirds, E. Phoebe, Hairy Woodpecker, Gray Catbird and Belted Kingfisher. Also a fairly constant flight of Monarchs that was especially noticeable towards the latter part of the afternoon. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Dave Brown ([email protected]) Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch information may be found at: http://www.ezlink.ca/~thebrowns/HawkCliff/index.htm More site information at hawkcount.org: http://hawkcount.org/siteinfo.php?rsite=392 _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
