Observation start time: 09:00:00
Observation end time: 15:00:00
Total observation time: 6 hours

Official Counter: Natalie Cypher

Observers: Andrew Sturgess, Frank Kitakis, Rosemary Brady

Visitors:
No extra visitors today - just the regular crew.

Weather:
Rain was in the forecast, and was surrounding metro-Detroit most of the
day,but the count site never saw it until late. However, the low pressure
system seemed to keep most of the birds away. Winds were light from the
southwest and skies were cloudy all day.

Raptor Observations:
Very slow. No turkey Vultures or buteos - only the species that seem to
migrate no matter the conditions - a few Sharp-shinned and Cooper's Hawks,
and a few Northern Harriers. A few local raptors were spotted throughout
the day - our Bald Eagles, Cooper's Hawk, and the Merlin. The most
interesting sighting was probably our local "tail-less" juvenile Bald
Eagle. It appears to have no tail, and this is at least the second time it
has been seen here!

Non-raptor Observations:
Some of our Lake Erie fall/winter species are starting to show up - more
lines of distant waterfowl were seen flying towards Lake Erie, several
Bonaparte's Gulls were hunting in front of us, and a couple of Horned
Grebes and one Great Black-backed Gull were seen in the lake.

Predictions:
Tomorrow could be a decent migration day following today's weather system.
Weather will be a pleasant fall day with temperatures reaching 50F, partly
cloudy, and NW winds.
