Hi birders, Although birding has been fairly slow in the late morning and afternoon at Rondeau, there are still some great birds around, and activity is starting to pick up, so evening birding could be quite worthwhile.
The White-winged Dove continued to be seen into at least early afternoon along Lakeshore Rd. south of the visitor centre. Two male Hooded Warblers are still present along Harrison Trail just south of Pony Barn, while at least one Prothonotary continued into the early afternoon at the west end of Bennett Rd. A White-eyed Vireo was seen on Harrison Trail between the visitor centre and South Point Trail. The Red-throated Loon has still been present close to shore near the washout on South Point Trail, although it moves up and down the shore a fair bit. Thank you to everyone who contributed sightings and please continue to do so to me through email, or to the Visitor Centre in person or at (519) 674-1768. More information on the park's nature programs and the Friends of Rondeau is available at the Friends' website: www.rondeauprovincialpark.ca. Directions: Take exit 101 from Highway 401 and drive South 16 km on Chatham Kent Road 15. Turn right and follow the signs to the park. Bird sighting information, bird checklists, bird feeders, and breakfast and lunch offered by the Friends can be found at the visitor centre. To reach the visitor centre from the park gate, travel 6 km South on Rondeau Road to Gardiner Ave., then follow it around the bend to the parking lot. I lead guided hikes in the park twice daily - contact the visitor centre for more information.
