Highlights of reports received September 17 through September 24 from the Niagara Frontier Region. September 22 at Forest Lawn in Buffalo, 14 warbler species plus a PHILADELPHIA VIREO. Earlier, on September 20 at Forest Lawn, 2 WINTER WRENS, 3 WHITE-THR. SPARROWS, ROSE-BR. GROSBEAK and only three warbler species. Nocturnal migration - the night of September 19 over the Town of Tonawanda, 2 GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSHES and 58 SWAINSON'S THRUSHES were heard calling overhead during a one hour period. COMMON NIGHTHAWKS this week - 3 over Amherst and 3 over Tonawanda. September 18 on the Niagara Peninsula of Ontario, 37 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS with 7 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS and abundant KILLDEER at the Poth Road turf farms in Dunnville. A single AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER this week at the Countryside Gravel Ponds on Route 62 in the Cattaraugus County Town of Dayton. At the Batavia Waste Water Plant, five shorebird species - SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, SPOTTED SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER, SEMIPALM. SANDPIPER and PECTORAL SANDPIPER. It was noted that water levels have been raised at Wood Marsh in the Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area, flooding out the shorebird habitat. Also this week - in the Oak Orchard Wildlife Management Area, 3 SANDHILL CRANES at Windmill Marsh. And, an adult BALD EAGLE has been a regular at the mouth of Johnson Creek at Lake Ontario in Orleans County. The Bird Report will be updated Thursday evening, October 1.
