Observation start time: 06:15:00
Observation end time: 15:45:00
Total observation time: 9.5 hours

Official Counter: Jenna McDermott

Observers: Bob Hall-Brooks, Carol Pitts, Ed Pitts

Visitors:
There were plenty of people out enjoying the nice weather today, and many
were interested in learning about raptors and migration! We had visitors
from Owen Sound, South Carolina, Windsor, Toronto, and Brampton, just to
name a few.

Weather:
A hot day again with no cloud cover, but quite pleasant when the wind
picked up. Winds were continuing from the SW, S, and SE, and a haze
gathered near midday.

Raptor Observations:
It was a Sharpie sort of day today with the flight being dominated by over
200 Sharp-shinned Hawks that popped up in small flurries of up to 7 birds
at a time. 8 other species were seen, but brought in less than 10 birds per
species. One lonesome Broadwing spiralled its way across the marsh and 2
Merlins buzzed so quickly past the tower that we barely had a chance to
call them out before they were gone. One of the resident adult Bald Eagles
also proudly displayed a freshly-caught fish while parading past the tower.

Non-raptor Observations:
Another fairly quiet day for non-raptors with 70 Cedar Waxwings, 2 Gray
Catbirds, 14 Warbler sp., 8 Red-winged Blackbirds, 2 Common Grackles, 40
American Goldfinches, and 3 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. Chimney Swifts did
put on a good appearance at 59 individuals. 2 Yellowlegs sp. also flew over
the marsh. Dragonflies of the day: 1 Twelve-spotted Skimmer, 19 Black
Saddlebags, 2 Common Green Darner. 37 Monarchs. See today eBird list

Predictions:
Another warm day with possible thunderstorms and winds from the SW. Winds
are supposed to switch to the North this weekend, so get ready for our
second festival weekend!
