Total observation time: 8 hours

Official Counter: Jennifer Lyon

Observers: Clive Hodder, Derek Lyon, Don Campbell, Jim Dunn,
Keith Sealy, Mary Carnahan, Ronnie Goodhand

Visitors:
A number of visitors today including a group from Holland. Thanks to
everyone who helped with today's count... Jen, Derek, Don C., Keith S.,
Ronnie G., Clive H., Jim D., Mary C. and Olaf (from Kitchener).

Weather:
Ended up being a predictable day based on the winds mostly from the SSW as
this wind direction pushes the birds inland. Temp was warmer to a high of
23C with just a few clouds in the afternoon.

Raptor Observations:
A total of 73 raptors tallied for the day. Some very nice views of harriers
and osprey as the afternoon progressed. Some local bald eagles were flying
along the cliff and continued to show well. The merlin late in the day
hunted in the forest across from the mound and then zipped across the field
and past the counters down to the lake within seconds.

Non-raptor Observations:
Pileated WP, Swainson's Thrush, Hermit Thrush, Wood Thrush, Gray Catbird,
Magnolia Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Herring Gull, Red-bellied WP,
YB Sapsucker, White-breasted Nuthatch, RT Hummingbirds,
Least Flycatcher, Red-eyed Vireo, Cedar Waxwings,
Caspian Tern, Scarlet Tanager and Great blue heron

38 Monarchs counted from the mound.

Saddlebags (tons)
Green darners (tons)
Eastern pond hawks
Cabbage white
Orange sulphurs
Red Admiral
Summar asure
Viceroy
Blue damselfly

Predictions:
Similar weather tomorrow with winds continuing from the S and SW and even
warmer temps. I wouldn't expect too much of a flight other than species
that typically fly along the cliff edge on these winds....Osprey, Kestrels
and Harriers.
