Observers: Andy Parsons, Bob Hall-Brooks, Bob Pettit, Kory Renaud,
                  Larry Ludwicki, Olga Klekner

Visitors:
We had 4 visitors in the morning that got to see the best of today's
migration, and helped spot many sneaky Sharpies and Broadwing kettles.

Weather:
The day was shaping up to be a nice, cool temperature with ideal winds from
the north when the rain started just after noon. There were two layers of
cloud, one fast-moving lower set, and another constant layer much higher.

Raptor Observations:
Our first day of Broadwing kettles! The kettles we saw contained mostly
20-30 birds and sometimes were lost between the two layers of cloud, but it
was an exciting time. Over 300 Sharp-shinned Hawks shot past the tower when
winds were stronger and over 100 American Kestrels did the same, even
continuing to fly through the rainy afternoon. Osprey, Bald Eagles,
Cooper's Hawks, a Red-tail, and Merlin were less numerous but added some
welcome variety to the morning.

Non-raptor Observations:
A surprising number of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds (64) zoomed past the
tower at high speeds, not seeming to mind the rain at all. Tree Swallows
and Chimney Swifts also continued to fly in the afternoon rain. Ducks in
the marsh now include Wood Duck, Mallard, American Black Duck, American
Wigeon, Gadwall, Blue-winged Teal, and Northern Shoveler. 1 Monarch. For
today's list of species see the eBird checklist
http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S24988756

Predictions:
Moderate winds from the North tomorrow which should keep Broadwings and
other raptors down by the lake. Don't forget to come visit Holiday Beach
this weekend for the Hawk Festival! See our website for details and a
schedule of events http://hbmo.ca/blog/hawkfest-2015-schedule-of-events/
