The rain started around noon, first as a drizzle, then as a downpour, chasing us away by early afternoon. The wind was moderate and out of the north. Raptor Observations: Broad-winged Hawks, Sharp-shinned Hawks and American Kestrels remained interested in moving, continuing to cross even as the rain came down. Before the rain, two Peregrine Falcons took advantage of the nice north wind and quickly made their way past. Non-raptor Observations: Chimney Swift (220+), Wilson's Snipe (2), Spotted Sandpiper (1), Wood Duck (2), American Coot (10) Predictions: Partly cloudy skies with cooler temps and strong north wind. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and its Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
