Flushed from a wet depression in a field by a harrier about 0.5 km south of Monicello and flew right over me on Side road 20 & 21 towards Big Island. A large shorebird with finely-striped belly and neck; long bill mostly orange with a black tip; black legs. Flight call at kaaWEK. I grew up in Saskatchewan and thus am very familiar with this species.
Directions: >From Toronto: take #410 to #10 to Orangeville; west on Hwy #109 to 24-25 Sidereal north; then right heading west at Conc. Rds. 6-7 (this takes you to the south east corner of the marsh). Note: it is big area and I suggest goggling it and printing out map. It is well worth the trip. From the west of Toronto you can do it about an hour and 20 minutes but ... the south end of the #410 (north of the #401) is under construction, so that section may slow you down.
