Weather:
The sky was as clear as could be at the start. In the afternoon, a
smattering of cirrus sprouted up, adding a dollop of white to offset some
of the blue. Temperatures rose as the day wore on, reaching up into the 50s
by the late afternoon. The wind was light and out of the west to start the
day, shifting to the southeast later.
Raptor Observations:
Another great flight! Not as many vultures as yesterday but more than
enough Red-tailed, Red-shouldered, Cooper's and Sharp-shinned hawks made up
for it. During a two hour stretch midday, a consistent stream of vultures,
Redtails and Redshoulders passed overhead low and close, delighting the
observers below. Great looks at several Golden Eagles (4) and Rough-legged
Hawks (3) added to the day's overall quality as well. But when the wind
shifted to the southeast in the early afternoon, our flight mostly shut
down. After that, remaining migrants were spotted moving well to the north
of us.
Non-raptor Observations:
American Crow (2000+), Blue Jay (250+), Red-winged Blackbird (400+),
American Robin (14), Eastern Bluebird (4), Pine Siskin (60+), House Finch
(1), Darl-eyed Junco (7), Bonaparte's Gull (6), Ruddy Duck (1), Sandhill
Crane (2)
Predictions:
Partly cloudy with light and variable wind.
