Today was a very "Ducky" day on the south-east side of the lake off Scugog Point. Certainly the highest count so far this year... probably over 2000. There was also a high species count with 10 species easily identified. The vast majority were Lesser Scaup followed by Redheads then Golden-eyes. Mallards and Blacks, along with American Wigeon and a single female Wood Duck were active swimming among the surfaced Divers, dashing back and forth picking up remains of Zebra Mussels attached to weed stocks brought up by the Divers. Rounding out the species count were singles of Canvasback, White-winged Scoter, and Ring-necked.
Surprisingly, no Merganser species were seen.... they have been here and will be again.... but not today. Good Birding ! Bruce -- B.F. Aikins 118 Morris Lane Scugog Point Nestleton Stn.
