  The Buffalo Bird Report is a service provided by your
  Buffalo Museum of Science and the Buffalo Ornithological
  Society. To contact the Science Museum, call 896-5200. Press
  the pound key to report sightings before the end of this
  report.

  Reports received October 9 through October 16 from the
  Niagara Frontier Region.

  The BOS October count was conducted on October 11. A section
  of eastern Niagara County including the Lake Ontario shore,
  reported 72 species. Along the lakeshore, numbers of GREATER
  SCAUP, WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, LONG-TAILED DUCK, COMMON
  MERGANSER, RED-BR. MERGANSER, COMMON LOON, RED-THROATED
  LOON, HORNED GREBE and RED-NECKED GREBE. Also in the
  section, good counts of 26 RED-BELLIED WDPKRS. and 9 PURPLE
  FINCHES, plus 20 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS, 5 GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSHES
  and EASTERN TOWHEE.

  A section of Lancaster reported 55 species including OSPREY
  and RED-HEADED WDPKR. at Como Park, plus LINCOLN'S SPARROW
  and EASTERN MEADOWLARK.

  Another OSPREY this week at Johnson Creek, on Lake Ontario
  in Orleans County.

  Small numbers of PINE SISKINS were noted over Lake Ontario
  and Lancaster this week. And a single PURPLE FINCH on
  Shirley Avenue in Buffalo.

  Up to 8 SANDHILL CRANES continue at Kumpf Marsh, on Route 77
  in the Iroquois Refuge. Also at Kumpf Marsh, GREATER
  YELLOWLEGS, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, WILSON'S SNIPE, VIRGINIA
  RAIL, MARSH WREN, LINCOLN'S SPARROW and RUSTY BLACKBIRD.

  Highlights at the Batavia Waste Water Plant this week - over
  1600 RUDDY DUCKS, 250 NORTHERN SHOVELERS and a RED-NECKED
  GREBE.

  And in Genesee County, a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK lingering at
  Francis and Brown Roads in the Town of Bethany.

  The Bird Report will be updated Thursday evening, October
