We also had a very brief visit from around 30 students from Walkerville Collegiate Institute. Thanks to our visitors and HBMO members for the extra eyes along the shoreline while the Turkey Vultures flew on the north side of the marsh! Weather: Winds around 17km/h from the west all day with gusts up to 30km/h. The temperature rose to 16C and there was partial cloud for much of the afternoon. Raptor Observations: Cooler temperatures and some cloud cover were keeping the raptors low and easy to see. Sharp-shinned hawks started out the day, with American Kestrels putting in a good showing a couple hours later. Turkey Vultures really picked up the pace, with more than 2500 migrating by the end of the day. Non-raptor Observations: There were good numbers of Blue Jays (12850), Cedar Waxwings (79), warblers (240), and American Goldfinches (441) today, along with large mixed flocks of Red-winged Blackbirds, Grackles and Starlings. 2 Monarchs. See today's eBird list http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S20174590 Predictions: Tomorrow's weather will be much the same as today, winds from the west at 25km/h and very little cloud cover. As such, we can expect much the same for bird diversity! ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jenna McDermott ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
