Birders,
I spent a few hours on the Niagara River this morning with Brandon Holden. >From the area of Mather Park, we watcher a large storm front move in, driving many birds ahead of it, inland, or up the Niagara River. The winds were a strong W or SW component and have been for a few days now. Highlights from a few hours this morning included 2 dark/intermediate Morph PARASITIC JAEGERS, a 1st winter LITTLE GULL, as well as over half a dozen Peregrine Falcons, all flying west along Lake Erie shoreline. As the system came closer to us, hundreds of Bonaparte's Gulls and Common Terns made their way up the Niagara River. It was quite a phenomenon to watch. More Little Gulls, Sabine's Gulls, and Red-necked Phalarope were also seen on the river today in the Fort Erie area. Conditions look good for tomorrow, similar birds could easily be seen. Take the QEW Niagara, exit at Central Ave. Travel south and then east on Central and you will come to Lakeshore Road. Travel south on Lakeshore until you reach mather park, on your left, along the river. Watch out onto the lake. If you hit White Street, youve gone too far. Good birding, Len _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
