They got their first ever looks at a Bald Eagle today! Weather: The clear sky in the morning clouded up around 8 and a steady drizzle began at 10:30, lasting until 1. 1-6km/h winds came from the south all day. Raptor Observations: 9 species were seen today with Turkey Vultures making up most of the numbers. 2 Bald Eagles got ushered through the marsh by our resident adults and a Cooper's Hawks provided some excitement when it dove for some Blue Jays and, upon being unsuccessful, sat in a nearby tree ruffling its feathers before flying off again. 4 Peregrine Falcons were nice to see migrating, and the day ended off with a bang (pun intended) when another Peregrine hit the plastic owl and flew back to the east just as I was leaving the tower. Non-raptor Observations: Red-winged Blackbirds and European Starlings were flying in large flocks today. It was interesting to see the male and female RW Blackbirds flying in separate groups and only merging together in flight momentarily before breaking apart again. The couple hours of drizzle in the middle of the day brought some warblers down into the bushes around the tower and 7 species were seen. 11930 Blue Jays. See today's eBird list http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S20062207 Predictions: No rain, partial cloud, and winds from the west tomorrow should make for a good day. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jenna McDermott ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
