Excellent start to the new year. I spotted a male Harlequin Duck out on the
lake near the apartment buildings. It was in amongst some Common Goldeneyes.
Also a life bird for me, a Short-eared Owl flew past me holding something in
its talons. The owl flew over the marina only 40ft away from me and out over
the lake where it began to fly with some Ring-billed Gulls. I lost sight of it
as it flew out over the lake. other notable birds:Horned GrebeWhite-Winged
