Not a cloud in sight from start to finish. There was morning fog to deal with again but it thankfully burned off quickly. The wind was light and out of the west in the morning, then moderate and out of the southeast in the afternoon. Raptor Observations: Not a bad day of movement, particularly the later hours. A handful of Red-tailed Hawks mixed in with many groups of vultures winding their way past throughout the day. Sharpies and kestrels made a bit of a late day push, though many were crossing well to our north. Non-raptor Observations: Blue Jays (9000+) were abundant in the morning. Warblers were more noticeable in the trees nearby than at any point so far this season with Blackpoll, Cape May, Palm, Yellow-rumpled and American Redstart all accounted for. Predictions: Overcast with light south wind and a 70 percent chance of rain. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and its Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
