Weather: Cool and cloudy for most of the day with moderate to strong winds out of the north-west. The temperature ranged from 16C to a high of 21C. Raptor Observations: 59 Raptors of 10 species, including the first Broad-winged Hawks and Red-shouldered Hawk for the season. Also another nice movement of Bald Eagles with 18 birds. Non-raptor Observations: No change in the population of resident species. Migrants included: 3 Lesser Yellowlegs; 2 Wilson's Snipe; 13 Chimney Swift; 12 Ruby-throated Hummingbird; 12 Purple Martin; 24 Tree Swallow; 137 Northern Roughwinged Swallow; 14 Barn Swallow (several hundred other swallows were at the north end of the marsh and not identified to species); 4 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher; 96 Cedar Waxwing; 1 male Rose-breasted Grosbeak; 7 House Finch; and 11 American Goldfinch Predictions: Another cool morning at 14C, but a sunny day that will warm up to 27C. Winds are predicted to be out of the north-west again.
