The biggest surprise of the week was an OSPREY on the Cataraqui River.
The was a big influx of BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS, while finch observations
were limited mainly to COMMON REDPOLLS.

City of Kingston
A very early returning OSPREY was seen flying over the Cataraqui River
at the Highway 401 bridge. The resident PEREGRINE FALCON pair was
spotted all over downtown Kingston between Queen's University and the
intersection of Princess and Division Streets. The lagoon at Elevator
Bay had GADWALL, AMERICAN BLACK DUCK, RING-NECKED DUCK, COMMON
MERGANSER and AMERICAN COOT among other waterbirds. One hundred
BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS, 2 CEDAR WAXWINGS and 1 AMERICAN ROBIN were seen on
Glencoe Crescent. Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area had a
BARRED OWL, 46 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS and a single CEDAR WAXWING. Four
AMERICAN ROBINS were seen along Gore Road.

Amherst Island
Noteable birds included TUNDRA SWAN, 500 REDHEADS, GREATER SCAUP,
LONG-TAILED DUCK, BUFFLEHEAD, COMMON GOLDENEYE, COMMON MERGANSER,
NORTHERN HARRIER, COOPER'S HAWK, BALD EAGLE, RED-TAILED HAWK,
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, AMERICAN KESTREL, 1 PEREGRINE FALCON, NORTHERN
SHRIKE and BOHEMIAN WAXWING.

Opinicon Road
The feeders at Queen's University Biological Station continued to host
over 100 COMMON REDPOLLS, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH and other common
species. A HOARY REDPOLL was seen on the 26th. At least a dozen BALD
EAGLES were in the area feeding on carcasses over the past week.
Chaffey's Lock had some interesting waterfowl for the location and
time of year including 1 female NORTHERN PINTAIL, 1 female RING-NECKED
DUCK and 1 male GREATER SCAUP. The TRUMPETER SWANS were present all
week below the lock.

Wolfe Island
RED-TAILED HAWK, SNOWY OWL and AMERICAN KESTREL comprised the
diversity of raptors reported this past week. Also of note were 30+
HORNED LARKS.

Other Observations
There was a NORTHERN SHRIKE and 13 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS at Millhaven.
Thirty-seven more BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS and 3 PINE GROSBEAKS were at
Glenburnie. An AMERICAN ROBIN was at Sydenham.
