No rarities to report from this past week. A few interesting birds did
show up at feeders here and there. Not many winter finches were
reported but there was a smattering of AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES and COMMON
REDPOLLS at least.

City of Kingston
Among the more seasonally common species of waterfowl at Cataraqui Bay
this past week was 1 CANVASBACK and 1 HOODED MERGANSER. A FOX SPARROW
was visiting a feeder in the Barriefield Area and a WHITE-THROATED
SPARROW was visiting a Westbrook feeder.

Amherst Island
Island birds included RED-TAILED HAWK, 7 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS, 1 BALD
EAGLE, 4 SNOWY OWLS, 1 BARRED OWL, 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS, 3 AMERICAN
KESTRELS, 1 RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER, 1 NORTHERN FLICKER, 1 BELTED
KINGFISHER, 2 NORTHERN SHRIKES, COMMON RAVEN, 9 HORNED LARKS, 1
LAPLAND LONGSPUR and 1 EASTERN MEADOWLARK. Waterfowl included 85
TUNDRA SWANS, AMERICAN BLACK DUCK, LESSER SCAUP, BUFFLEHEAD and COMMON
GOLDENEYE.

Howe Island
The waters off the island hosted 34 TRUMPETER SWANS, GADWALL, AMERICAN
BLACK DUCK, LONG-TAILED DUCK, COMMON GOLDENEYE as well as COMMON and
RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS. Three BARRED OWLS and 7 BALD EAGLES were also
there.

Violet Dump
The most notable gulls at the dump this past week were 1 ICELAND, 3
GLAUCOUS and 2 GREAT BLACK-BACKED.

Wolfe Island
50+ TUNDRA SWANS, NORTHERN HARRIER, RED-TAILED HAWK, ROUGH-LEGGED
HAWK, 2 SNOWY OWLS, 1 AMERICAN KESTREL, 1 NORTHERN SHRIKE and 1 HORNED
LARK were the highlights.

Other Observations
A PINE WARBLER continued to patronize a feeder north of Verona. A
RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER and a COMMON GRACKLE were visiting a yard near
Bedford Mills. A NORTHERN SHRIKE was at the intersection of Rutledge
Road and Perth Road and another near Battersea. A BALD EAGLE was at
Gananoque. A COOPER'S HAWK was at Napanee. A BELTED KINGFISHER was
along Big Creek Road. An AMERICAN ROBIN was at Hay Bay.
