This morning I spent an hour birding Colonel Sam Smith Park in Etobicoke
looking for the reported Eared Grebe.
I didn’t find the Eared Grebe but I did find Pied-billed, Horned and Red-necked
Grebes.
In the Marina Bay I found a first winter male Harlequin Duck swimming and
sleeping with a male Bufflehead (not that there’s anything wrong with that) and
while standing on the southwest point a first winter Thayer’s Gull flew a 180
around me not 20 feet from me as it came from behind and headed to somewhere in
the Marina Bay, I didn’t look for it after it FLEW past me.
A nice morning with a light wind when I first got there and warmed enough to
doff my gloves and open my coat. I love these kind of winters.
DIRECTIONS TO COLONEL SAMUEL SMITH PARK IN ETOBICOKE -TORONTO
To get to Col. Sam Smith Park from Queen & Yonge Streets. Take the Queen

another at the Humber Loop, but this is no big deal.
You can also take the Kipling South #44 TTC bus from Kipling subway station
