Weather: Alternating between entirely overcast and mostly sunny, it was a jacket on, jacket off kind of day. The temperature never rose above the mid 60s and the wind was mostly out of the southwest, shifting more southeast late. Raptor Observations: Not much going on today besides a relatively robust Bald Eagle flight. Ten eagles were counted including six first year birds during a 10-minute stretch in the late morning. We're on pace to shatter last year's high of 235 Bald Eagles counted in a season. Non-raptor Observations: Five American Golden-Plovers flew by during the first hour. Blue Jays (3000+), Red-winged Blackbirds (120+) and American Goldfinches (25+) were moving early. A small flock of Cedar Waxwings (10) passed by in the morning, headed south. A large flock of Wood Ducks (12) jetted by in the afternoon, headed northwest. Chimney Swifts (60+) and swallows (mostly Tree but also some Northern Rough-winged) continue to be a near constant presence from midday on. Predictions: Partly cloudy, highs in the low 70s and wind out of the northwest at 5 to 15 mph. Should be good. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The primary site used by the Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and it's Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
