Wildlife Preservation Canada would like express our gratitude to everyone
who was involved in the 2012 Eastern Loggerhead Shrike field season through
surveying and reporting sightings. Your efforts greatly enhance those of
our field staff; reports are very important for establishing accurate
population counts and for determining migration routes.

A report led us to confirm a banded bird in Hamilton in late March that was
later documented in Carden by field staff. An Adopt-A-Site volunteer report
allowed confirmation of a pair in Grey-Bruce, the only pair confirmed in
this core this year. And we have already received a couple of reports of
fall migrants, including a banded shrike observed at the Occoquan National
Wildlife Refuge in Virginia in mid-September; the band combination
identified it as a captive-release bird hatched at Toronto Zoo and released
from Napanee on August 15.

Our shrikes are well on their way south, so keep your eyes peeled and please
report any sightings to us (1-800-956-6608 or
<mailto:[email protected]> jessicaATwildlifepreservation.ca).
Please pay particular attention to any bands and report these with your
sightings. This year all wild adults banded received OR/SI on the right as
part of their 4-colour combination, while captive-release birds sport YE/SI
on the left as part of their combo. There were no birds released with
geolocators this year.

Thank-you again for volunteering your time to the recovery effort for this
critically endangered bird. If you are interested in participating in the
Adopt-A-Site Program next season or would like more information, please
contact us.
