The wind was strong and out of the northwest. Raptor Observations: Despite the rain, the overcast skies and the blustery wind, there were plenty of Broad-winged Hawks itching to move. When the wind died down for a couple hours in the late afternoon, the flight line shifted north and brought some large kettles and accompanying streams within view. Non-raptor Observations: A nice flock of Blue-winged Teal (25+) jetted past the channel in the morning. Blue Jays (60+) were again on the move. A Blue-gray Gnatcatcher was heard at one point. And a Yellow-rumped Warbler could be found foraging with Black-throated Green and Cape May warblers in our spruce during the late afternoon. Predictions: Sunny with highs in the mid 60s and mostly south wind at 10-15 mph. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The primary site used by the Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and it's Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
