Great fallout today with 15 species of warblers in the Toronto Necropolis and Riverdale Farm.
Necropolis had: 2 Cape May Warblers 1 Tennessee 1 Northern Parula 1 Blackpoll and then varying numbers of Nashville Yellow Chestnut-sided Magnolia Black-throated Blue Yellow-rumped Black-throated Green Blackburnian Palm Black-and-White (almost as many as Yellow-rumped) Also present, local Cooper's Hawk Riverdale Farm added: Indigo Bunting Common Yellowthroat Green Heron male Wood Duck 59 species in two neighbouring areas Once a year I like to tell people who live in Toronto about the Toronto Necropolis and Riverdale Farm, adjacent properties at the far eastern end of Winchester Street in Toronto, east of Parliament Street. Both are free and both are small but very productive sites on good days. The Toronto Necropolis is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. 7 days a week and is good for birding after work. The Riverdale Farm is only open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., 7 days a week. The Farm has several lower ponds so between the two locations you get a good variety of birds. Free parking on Winchester Street. For those with mobility problems, most of the birds that visit the Necropolis during migration are on the main upper level, with small flat roadways and mostly flat grassy areas - so a good small site to bird even with cane/scooter/wheelchair. The Riverdale Farm is small but not as accessible with stairs or steep paths in some areas.
