I saw two Cooper's hawks at dusk, near Crawford and Lobb, at Trinity-Bellwoods park, on the evening of 5/4/2012. First, I heard the "kik", then I saw the hawks fly into the park, where I think they are building a nest within the local trees.
I also had the chance to visit Hawk Cliff. I did not see any hawks during my visit to the cliff, but I did see tiger beetles along the sandy edges - and I saw two red-tailed hawks and four turkey vultures in the fields just north of Hawk Cliff. Hawk Cliff is just east of Port Stanley, south of Dexter Road at the end of Hawk Cliff Road. The tundra swan was just south of the ponds at the Aylmer National Wildlife Area, in a farmer's field along Springfield Road. The white-winged crossbills were in a thicket, by the first hunting area, near the north-east corner of College Line and Springfield Road. I also saw two female brown-headed cowbirds. 6/4/2012 Today, I had the chance to visit Colonel Samuel Smith Park, at 4:30 PM. I saw six horned grebes by the south west shore. Towards the south east shore I saw a raft of approximately 40 red-necked grebes, and in the north-east harbour I saw a raft of another nearly 40 red-necked grebes. I also saw many (more than 10) tree swallows throughout the park. I would have taken the time to count, specifically how many, if I had more time on hand. The above numbers, referring to the red-necked grebes were my best reasonable estimates.
