Hi Ontbirders:

Not as many Green-Winged Teals today as yesterday but still quite a number
there at the western most pond. Expect these to stay (hopefully) until the
pond ices over. If you sit still along the edge of the pond, they will swim up
close...requires some patience but is rewarding (see photo link below). In
years past, these teals can also be seen along the major boardwalk pond at the
Jack Pine Trail (early mornings are best before crowds push them further back
in the pond). Good numbers of Scaup and by days end a few of them started to
swim up to the edge of the pond...except to swim away when people walked their
dogs by. Two tame Brant Geese still there....funny scene to see a birder
looking through binoculars across the pond with 2 Brant feeding only a few feet
in front from where the person was standing. What appeared to be a Merlin flew
overhead. Happy birding.
