Tom Calligaro stopped in for a brief period. Weather: The sun was again bright and the sky clear, though it was slightly cloudier today than it has been in the recent past. Visibility was better with a nice mixture of blue and white to work with and a lot less fog and haze to deal with. Winds were predominantly out of the southeast for the sixth straight day. Raptor Observations: Periods of idleness at the start and at the finish bracketed a comparatively robust midday flight. Buteos exerted their presence a little more today after a few days of limited activity. The vultures are still way far out there and continue to cross to our north. Non-raptor Observations: There were lots of killdeers around in the morning. Northern flickers also continue to fly by in greater and greater numbers. Predictions: We tried to soak up as much sun as we could today considering this might be the last day we see much of it, at least for a little while. Tomorrow, there's a 30 percent chance of rain. Regardless of the rain, expect significant cloud cover. The wind will continue to be out of the southeast. We could really use a cold front or a wind shift to help shake loose another wave of migrants. That doesn't appear to be in the cards until the weekend, though. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The primary site used by the Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and it's Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
