The rain held off beautifully for the first guided walk along the Point
Traverse trails for the start of the Prince Edward County Spring Birding
Festival, although visibility was restricted due to a misty fog that
persisted throughout the walk. Birds seen were EASTERN TOWHEE, BALTIMORE
ORIOLES, NORTHERN FLICKERS, FIELD SPARROW, GRAY CATBIRD and thee species of
vireos including WARBLING, PHILADELPHIA and RED-EYED. Thirteen species of
warblers: NASHVILLE, NORTHERN PARULA, YELLOW, CHESTNUT-SIDED, MAGNOLIA, CAPE
MAY, BLACK-THROATED BLUE, YELLOW-RUMPED, BLACK-THROATED GREEN, BLACKBURNIAN,
BAY-BREASTED, BLACK-AND-WHITE, and AMERICAN REDSTART. Along the trails at
the Bird Observatory, a BLUE-WINGED WARBLER was seen.

DIRECTIONS: On Main Street, at the far east end of Picton, turn down the big
hill (Bridge Street) and turn immediately right at the bottom of the hill
onto Union Street (across from harbour). Follow Union Street out of Picton
(becomes County Road 8) for 2.5 km, and at the junction in the highway,
follow County Road 17. Take County Road 17 for 6.5 km and look for the Black
River Cheese sign, and turn left onto County Road 16 and follow for 1 km to
the Stop sign at County Road 13. Follow County Road 13 past Black River
Cheese for 23.6 km to the Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area. Total
