For the past three days, including this morning, there has been a Wood Thrush frequenting the woodlot at Lynde Shores Conservation Area. When seen, it appears near the metal fence demarcating the western boundary of the woodlot. It was observed and photographed by me this morning around 10:30 a.m.
When foraging on the ground it is still finding invertebrates to eat so it may stick around for a while. There are only a handful of winter records for the province. On a different note, I was surprised to flush a Ruffed Grouse from a cedar tree near the Lakeshore trail in the Squire's Beach area of Pickering. Apparently it is close to the peak of their grouse's population cycle so there may be an irruption of sorts occurring. There were also about 25 C. Redpolls in the same area. Lynde Shores Conservation Area is on the south side of Victoria St. in Whitby. Victoria St. can be accessed from the 401 by taking either the Salem Rd. or Brock St. exits.
