Highlights of reports received December 2 through December 9 from the Niagara Frontier Region include WHITE-W. CROSSBILL, COMMON REDPOLL, FOX SPARROW and waterfowl.

Feeders were the highlight this week. December 6, the season's first and only, to date, report of WHITE-W. CROSSBILL - a single female WHITE-W. CROSSBILL at a feeder on Transit Road in the Town of Amherst. In Chautauqua County, December 8, amid 30 inches of snow, two COMMON REDPOLLS in the Stockton Village of Cassadaga. And, a rare in December FOX SPARROW under a feeder in the Town of Hamburg.

December 3 highlights at the Batavia Waste Water Plant - rare inland RED-THROATED LOON and LONG-TAILED DUCK, and a rare anywhere except at the plant, EARED GREBE. 13 waterfowl species included 645 RUDDY DUCKS, plus GADWALL, AMERICAN WIGEON, AMERICAN BLACK DUCK, NORTHERN SHOVELER, GREEN-WINGED TEAL, RING-NECKED DUCK, GREATER SCAUP, LESSER SCAUP, BUFFLEHEAD, HOODED MERGANSER and COMMON MERGANSER, plus AMERICAN COOT.

In the Niagara Falls area this week - 2 THAYER'S GULLS and 5 L. BLACK-B. GULLS, plus CAROLINA WREN, GOLDEN-CR. KINGLET, AMERICAN ROBIN and HERMIT THRUSH at Goat Island. Waterfowl included 33 TUNDRA SWANS, abundant GREATER SCAUP and COMMON GOLDENEYES, with CANVASBACK, LESSER SCAUP and RED-BR. MERGANSER. And atop the Falls View Motel, a MERLIN.

Also this week - WHITE-WINGED SCOTER in Dunkirk Harbor and 49 TUNDRA SWANS on the west Niagara River off Grand Island.
