Hello Birders,
After recently returning from Ecuador and West Mexico, I've finally found some time to do some Winter birding here in Ontario! I birded the Kortright Centre this morning and found some birds of note for the area - RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER was at the first feeder near the trailheads. A very uncommon bird for this area which I have only observed twice before...probably the same bird. PILEATED WOODPECKER was also near the feeder. This is a great place to see them in the Winter. COMMON REDPOLLS have arrived, but not in large numbers yet. Two COMMON RAVENS were displaying near the park entrance on Pine Valley Drive yesterday...another uncommon bird for the area. I have also seen WILD TURKEYS around for the past few days. Also at the first feeder near the trailheads, for those interested, was a spiffy CASSIAR JUNCO (J.h cismontanus) Directions: The Kortright Centre is located three kilometers west of Highway 400 and one kilometer south of Major Mackenzie Drive at 9550 Pine Valley Drive in Woodbridge. There is an entrance fee. Good Birding!
