Clouds picked up early and collected together as the day went on. Winds were from the northwest at about 5mph at the most. Temperatures started off cool but warmed up to the mid 50's. Raptor Observations: Raptors only moved when there was a major break in the clouds, all of which were very temporary. We did tally some good birds in the few kettles that did come through. For buteos we had 194 Red-tailed Hawks, 26 Red-shouldered Hawks, and 2 Rough-legged Hawks. 3 Golden Eagles, one of which was an adult, came through in the early afternoon. Accipiter movement was odd, with no Sharp-shinned Hawks, but 1 Northern Goshawk. A total of 342 raptors were counted of 11 species. Non-raptor Observations: A very large raft of American Coots and Ruddy Ducks could be seen early in the morning, 7 Bufflehead were noted in with them. A group of 11 Tundra Swans were seen flying north today, most likely some wintering locals. Predictions: Tomorrow is looking to be the most unlikely day for raptor migration. A rain shower is supposed to pick up at 5am (EDST) and then mix with snow around 10am, before finishing off at 6pm. The showers are supposed to be spotty, but it is still early to tell how it will play out. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Greg Norwood ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
