Another great day was had in Highland Woods today.

Between my own birding with others and a few reports I have had e-mailed to me.

10:15 AM

This morning brought my first SWAINSON'S THRUSH of the fall, CANADA WARBLER
(which has been seen in unusually high numbers in the woods), and RUBY CROWNED
KINGLETS. I then met others who already had PHILADELPHIA VIREO (another one
with very high counts), and about half a dozen WILSON'S WARBLERS.

10:45-11:45

We kept walking the open area and met a family of NORTHERN FLICKERS, of which
we counted 4. We also had BLUE JAY, NORTHERN CARDINALS, RED BREASTED NUTHATCH,
RUBY CROWNED KINGLET. Proceeding near a cul de sac of homes bordering the
woods, we spotted what is in my opinion, the bird of the year, an OLIVE SIDED
FLYCATCHER. Certainly not a bird reported a lot in this area. Finally we had an
OSPREY migrating very high overhead.

Other reports coming in from afternoon to evening have MAGNOLIA WARBLER, RED
EYED VIREO, EASTERN WOOD PEWEE, GRAY CATBIRD, HOUSE WREN, and RUBY THROATED
HUMMINGBIRD. I have a potential report of NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD as well, but the
reporter wasn't sure on the species.......that said, there is one usually in
the area, usually in the backyards along the golf course.

At my feeders (I live on the woods) today I had WHITE BREASTED NUTHATCH, DOWNY
WOODPECKER, several BC CHICKADEES, and many RED BREASTED NUTHATCHES. RBNH
counts have been usuaually high in the area this year. ON a daily basis I can
have 3-4 at my feeders at one time, plus there are others in many other parts
of the woods. Likely there is 8-12 RBNH is this small wooded area. Very cool.

Directions can be obtained by e mailing me, as many of you have, thanks. If you
see a young dude with binocs there today (september 16th) it is likely me so
say hello, and I'll show you around.

Happy birding ya'll!
