The August issue of Ontario Birds is being mailed. Here is a brief
summary of what OFO members have to look forward to.

The major component of the August issue of Ontario Birds is always the
Report from the Ontario Rare Birds Committee (OBRC). Highlights of this
year's report, by Mark Cranford, include two new species added to the
Ontario list: Roseate Spoonbill and Black-tailed Gull. And, oddly
enough, one species was removed: MacGillivray's Warbler. Ross James
then presents an article on autumn movements of Blue Jays in the
vicinity of tree cover and wind turbines on Lake Erie's north shore.
This is followed by Brian Morin and Jack Hughes' article on Greater Snow
Geese in eastern Ontario, which is accompanied by some dazzling photos
of thousands of Snow Geese. The last article-length contribution is a
report by Harry Lumsden on his Trumpeter Swan work for 2008-2009. Last
but not least is a short note by Don Sutherland and Ron Ridout reporting
a Star-nosed Mole in the diet of the Saw-whet Owl. Enjoy this issue and
feel free to make contributions - short notes or full length articles -
to the December issue by 31 October. We depend on your contributions
to make for interesting reading in Ontario Birds.
