Good evening Ontbirders.

The Rondeau Provincial Park spring birding program will run from
Saturday May 1 through to May 24, Victoria Day. There will be daily Bird
Hikes and a Birders' Breakfast.

Our final count of warbler species for today was 23 species plus one
hybrid. The star of the afternoon was a Prairie Warbler in the
campgrounds. Other late additions to the list included Canada and
Wilson's Warblers, both on the Maintenance Loop.

Aside from warblers, other songbirds featured prominently in today's
birding. On Spicebush Trail, 2 Rusty Blackbirds added their squeaky
notes to the avian chorus. White-eyed Vireos were seen on both
Spicebush and South Point Trails. Higher numbers were reported for
Scarlet Tanagers.

The muddy area on Bayshore just south of the Park Office continued to
be productive for waterfowl and shorebirds. In addition to the
previously reported species, a Green-winged Teal and a Wilson's Snipe
were sighted there. Both of these species are easily missed when
birding the park in May.

It as come to my attention that the male Blue Grosbeak seen in the
park on May 6, 2010 was photographed. In an effort to further
document the occurrence of this bird, I would like to request that
anyone with photos of the bird contact me. We are always interested
in seeing photos of any rare or unusual birds in the park. Written
documentation is also most welcome. Thank you.

Good birding!
