Greetings all: It is with great excitement that I announce that this morning I
received Permit #001 from the Municipality of Brighton, Public Works Department
for the Brighton Constructed Wetland. It was six months ago when I first
requested information regarding access to other wetlands. Information was
received, digested and turned into a report.
The request for a permit will be available on the Town's web page in about
three weeks (hopefully).
However, anyone wishing to get a jump-start can just send me an email and I
will be happy to send the appropriate form to you. You can also email Keith
Lee.
1. You will receive a "Request for a permit" form.
2. Fill out the form and return it to the Public Works Department, 67 Sharp
Road, Brighton, ON K0K-1H0 along with the $5.00 fee and a self-addressed
stamped envelope.
3. Lisa will send you your permit along with a laminated, wallet size card to
carry with you. This will prevent anyone from having to carry around a 2 page
permit.
The self-addressed stamped envelope is not because the Town of Brighton is
cheap. This method was suggest by a local eminent birder. Tiny and I
discussed it and Jim Phillips agreed with the suggestion. Brighton is a small
town and the fact that the permit was approved, is just fantastic.
I ask for everyone to pass on this information to as many birding groups (both
local and away) as possible.
Once again, I take this opportunity to thank Doug McRae (for requesting access
to the wetland), Keith Lee (who took the request to Jim Phillips, P.Eng), Jim
Phillips (for agreeing to open the wetland provided Tiny was present), Keith
Lee for all the time he gave to each and everyone of us. And on a personal
note - for the wonderful friendship that has developed between Tiny (The
Gatekeeper) and I (The Scribe).
A most sincere and heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone single person who sent me
information! Ontbirds for posting all my "stories" about the Wetland and the
OFO for the Certificate of Appreciation for 2009.
Let us all work together to ensure that 2010 proves very successful at the
Wetland. Let us all hope that there will be no problems because access could
very easily be revoked. If all goes as planned we could see a platform on the
south side of the south cell and we could see wheelchair accessibility. 2010
marks the 10th Anniversary of the Brighton Constructed Wetland and celebrations
are in the planning stage.
The wetland has proven a great addition to the Brighton Wastewater Treatment
System as well as for the wild-life that now call it home.
I look forward to seeing my birding friends at the wetland. I look forward to
seeing Gracie and George (The Osprey who successfully raised three chicks).
Perhaps we will see the return of Catfish - the first chick.
Most sincerely
Maureen Campeau
