Since no one else has yet reported, today was a very good day for warblers at the Leslie Street Spit, with birds spread out throughout the wet areas of the baselands of the Spit.
Of the 23 species I saw the highlights were: Mourning Warbler (1) Ovenbird (1 or 2) Orange-crowned (1) Cape May (1 female) Northern Waterthrush (1) Bay-breasted (at least 2 males and 1 female) Blackpoll (2) Wilson's (1) also present were Tennessee, Nashville, Northern Parula, Yellow, Chestnut-sided, Magnolia, Black-throated Blue, Yellow-rumped, Black-throated Green, Blackburnian, Palm, Black-and-white, American Redstart, Common Yellowthroat and Canada. Orchard orioles, thrushes, sparrows and vireos were also in good numbers and variety. The baselands are still quite wet in places so boots are recommended. Directions: Tommy Thompson Park, also known as the Leslie Street Spit, is legally open to the public on weekends and holidays, though some birders do also visit the baselands of the spit only some weekdays. Please note that during the week the main roads in the Spit are used by commercial trucks to offload clean fill so the Park is legally closed and if you do bird on the baselands you must park outside and must stay off the roads. The baselands can be found just inside the main entrance, past the small parking lot on the right. Tommy Thompson Park is found at the very foot of Leslie Street, south of the Lakeshore, near Unwin Avenue in Toronto. Parking is free within the park near the entrance on weekends and holidays BUT THE PARKING LOT IS LOCKED AT 6 P.M. Free parking is also available on Leslie Street right outside the park 7 days a week.
