Posting for Ken Burrell: Ken did a really quick trip down to the Long Point area today. He stopped at Townsend Sewage Lagoons on his way home and found a white phase Ross's Goose with some Canada's in the lagoon. After watching this bird for a bit the flock got up and took flight to the south and landed in a corn field north of hwy 3 (between hwy 3 and the lagoons). He was able to view the flock from hwy 3 near house # 1496. As the flock went over he got poor looks at another goose that he thought might have been a blue phase Ross's Goose, based on it's small size and dark colour. Also at the lagoons was a single Tree Swallow and lots of ducks. A single white phase Snow Goose was along Hwy 3 at a creek with some Canadas about 2 km west of Townsend Sewage Lagoons. Around the Long Point area Ken had 2 more Snow Geese (1 white, 1 blue) and a Fox Sparrow along Hasting's Drive. Ken reported that Tundra Swans have mostly moved through the area with only a few hundred still around. Mike Burrell, Heidelberg, Ontario [email protected] Directions: Townsend Sewage Lagoons: >From Simcoe, travel east on Hwy 3 for about 14km, then turn north on #74 >(Townsend Parkway) toward the town of Townsend. Take the first left, 14th >Concession, and the lagoons are on your right, less than 1km down the road. Long Point is reached by travelling south on Hwy 24 from Simcoe and continuing to Hwy 59. Turn left on 59 and follow it south untill you reach Long Point. Hastings Drive is the road which goes west on Long Point, right when the road (hwy 59) turns east and becomes Erie Blvd. _________________________________________________________________ Chat with the whole group, and bring everyone together. http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9650735_______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
