Hello all, My husband and I were in Blenheim, Erieau area yesterday afternoon (March 17th). Around 6 pm, we saw lots of black birds on our way to McGeachy Pond - Grackles, Red-winged Blackbirds, Starlings and 4 Killdeer. In the pond we observed a pair of Mute Swan, a small flock of Canada Geese, a muskrat and a good number of male Red-winged Blackbirds. Further down from the pond was Rondeau Bay, a good place to see waterbirds. There was another pair of Mute Swan, a good number of Canada Geese, a big mix flock of waterfowls (could be a thousand) - Canvasbacks, Red heads, Ring-billed Ducks, Buffleheads, Goldeneyes, Scaups and Common Mergansers. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to discover Blenheim Sewage Lagoon.
Directions to Rondeau Bay: take highway 401 to exit 90. Take Hwy 11 south to Blenheim. From there go west on Hwy 3 to Erieau Rd. Turn right and head south. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
