On Saturday Feb 20th the Brereton Field Naturalists of Barrie were on a
field trip west of Barrie and in a rectangular course around the Minesing
Wetlands. We found a large flock of snowbunting on the Strongville Rd., on
a farm property while watching a snowey owl. Later while traveling that
area we found a total of seven. One even gave us a nice air show. Also on
the trip we found lots of pine siskins, some white winged crossbills, two
hairy and a downie woodpecker on Mckinnon road, which is flooded and frozen
over. Some wild turkeys on George Johnson, a roughleged hawk. When I
returned home there were two redpols with nice red chests and one hoary
redpol which was nice as I don't get them often. Lots of pine siskins and
goldfinches.

It made for a really good day, the weather cooperated. Our next field trip
is also close to this area where always see horned larks and sometimes
sandhill cranes, March 20th. Good birding Linda Crome, Breretons
